Why Samsung dishwasher not draining

Before doing anything, you must know why your Samsung dishwasher is not draining.

First of all, you have to check the sink’s drain for blockage & clogs caused by food, waste & debris. Now if you have checked there is no blockage due to food and waste.

Now you have to check the drain hose connection to the sink is straight and it is not damaged, kinked, bent or pinched shut.

Error codes like 5C, 5E, OC, or OE indicate that there is a drain or overflow error. Some older models don’t display any code but show certain combinations of blinking or flashing lights which also indicate a drain or overflow error.

Check for the dishwasher drain connection to sink

It could be your sink which may be preventing your dishwasher from draining.

Check for the garbage disposal is clear of food waste and not clogged if you are using it. If some food wastage or anything is present then clear it properly.

Inspect and clear the drain and check if there is any visible blockage if your dishwasher is directly connected to the drain.

If you have recently installed the dishwasher or garbage disposal and you have not forgotten to remove the disposal cap then it may be the cause of the blockage as well so check and remove it.

Inspect & clear the drain hose

The first reason for a drain issue after the installation is that the dishwasher is not properly fitted with drain hose, so set it properly.

The second reason is that the air gap is not connected to the air gap or drain hose is not making a high loop. If both of these are not available the water may fail to drain correctly and backflow into the dishwasher.

You have installed the drain hose according to local regulations as these are different for different geographical locations.

Make sure drain hose is not kinked or bent if you have recently made any changes in drain hose or dishwasher.

If the drain hose is damaged and cannot be straightened out then you need to replace the drain hose.

Check for the water supply to the sink

Run the water for a minute and then check if the sink drains. If the sink doesn’t drain, then there is no issue with the dishwasher and the issue is with the home’s plumbing. You need to contact a plumber to fix it.

Clean the filter, drain & sump in the tub

Regular cleaning is required of filter, drain and sump in the tub is required even if your dishwasher is working smoothly, because it may create blockage in near future if you don’t regularly clean it.

You need to clean your dishwasher and its parts when you notice a buildup of debris, stains, or other marks.

Now cleaning of the filter, drain and other parts become necessary because these may have blocked due to food waste.

Regular cleaning

Some Samsung dishwasher models have removable parts which help you in cleaning and removing the waste particles inside it. If your machine doesn’t have removable parts, then you are required to inspect and clean the dishwasher.

To clean the interior, you can place an 8-ounce cup of distilled white vinegar and place it upright in the lower basket, and then select the Sanitize button to start a Sanitize cycle. This cycle will reach 163°F during the final rinse cycle for optimum sanitization.

Deep cleaning

If your dishwasher still doesn’t start draining even after performing a regular cleaning by initiating the Sanitize cycle then you need to proceed for the Deep cleaning.

But make sure you perform a regular cleaning before starting the deep cleaning as it takes a lot of time and effort.

You need to remove the nozzles and the filter in the deep clean process. Now place them in distilled white vinegar, make sure they should be soaked overnight.

Distilled white vinegar is used to remove the grimes and minerals deposited which block the water flow and cause an odor.

Filter cleaning

Try to clean every part of the dishwasher which may seem to cause the blockage. And you should clean the filter often to avoid draining issues. If you clean your filter, it will prevent error 1E to show on the screen.

Here we have step by step guide to clean the filter:

• Remove the lower rack.
• Rotate the filter handle counterclockwise to open the filter compartment door.
• Now remove the filter door, and then remove the filter.
• Wipe away dirt or other remains from the filter and the filter door.
• Dip the filter & filter door in distilled white vinegar overnight.
• Next day rinse them under running water.
• Now reinstall the filter and the filter door.
• Now lock the filter door by rotating the filter door handle clockwise.

After following these steps, your dishwasher will start draining.

Nozzle Cleaning

If your dishwasher cleaning performance has degraded then this could be happening due to some of the clogged nozzle holes. So, you need to clean the Nozzles regularly so that they can rotate properly and spray water from everywhere.

• First of all, remove the racks which are fitted over the nozzles.
• Unfasten the nozzle cap by rotating it clockwise and remove all the nozzles.
• Use a small brush to clean the nozzles properly. Keep the nozzles inside distilled white vinegar overnight.
• Next day rinse the nozzles in running water.
• Now make sure water is easily passing through from all holes in the nozzle.
• Reinsert the nozzle and fasten the cap over it.
• Again, confirm if the nozzle is fitted properly by rotating it.

Drain pump cleaning

You may also check the drain pump if the debris is caught in or near the drain pump. The drain pump is accessible in some dishwasher models when the drain filter is removed.

If the debris is caught near the drain pump, then it may produce a noise while working or it may prevent the dishwasher from draining properly.

Check if the drain line is frozen

Keep the door under the sink open or find a way to warm up the area if it’s possible that your water or drain pipes are frozen.
